The effects of the pandemic in communities across the country and in individual homes have put families in very difficult financial positions as the holiday season approaches. There is usually greater food and housing security during the holidays, but The Salvation Army is expecting up to 155% more people to use its assistance programs in 2020. Its programs are funded by donations, and with the increased need, it needs our help to make sure our neighbors, friends, and family are taken care of. The Salvation Army Holiday Programs
130th Year of the Red Kettle Campaign
The Salvation Army’s red kettles are a staple of the holidays. During a normal year, you would not be able to walk into a large retailer or mall without seeing them at the entrances. With coronavirus precautions in place, there will be fewer red kettles out this year collecting donations. But since those donations fund a lot of programs, The Salvation Army needs extra help from the community this year to serve our most vulnerable members.
Angel Tree Program
When kids’ parents are in financial situations in which they need to focus on bills and other expenses, sometimes Christmas presents are not in the budget. The Angel Tree allows anonymous donors to give gifts like clothes and toys, so those kids have a present to open on Christmas.
